P4, P5, P6 and P7 took part in a very entertaining and informative ‘Body Builders’ workshop.

From 27th February to 3rd March it will be Book Week in school.

During the week there will be lots of reading activities and competitions to celebrate World Book Day on 2nd March.

We will also have our very popular Dressing Up Parade on the morning of March 2nd. This year’s theme is Heroes and Villains and all children from Nursery to P7 are welcome to join in. Please come and see the amazing costumes as we walk round the playground at 9.10am. There will be prizes for the best costumes!

The Scholastic Book Fair will be here from Tuesday to Friday, with a selection of books to buy for children from Nursery to P7. This sale was incredibly successful last year so we are hoping for another super selection of books.

Tickets available on the door for £2.50, nursery children are free

Food and drinks will be on sale prior to the movie starting and during the interval.

Papa John’s are helping us out with Pizza again and this time it’s only 50p a slice so come and feed all the family!

We’ll also have popcorn, smoothies and ice poles on sale.

Juice, tea and coffee will be available for free.

On Friday 16th December, some members of the School Choir travelled to Edinburgh Airport to raise money for the school. The kids were very excited and had a great time singing to all the passengers walking by. Any money raised by the kids was matched by Edinburgh Airport so the GRAND TOTAL raised by Tollcross was £205.20!! Well done everyone!! A big thank you to Edinburgh Airport for their generosity, Mrs Robertson for all her help and decorating the school banner and finally, a huge thank you to the kids for making the trip so special! Happy Christmas!

School pupils prepare time capsule as tenement restoration nears completion
Children from Tollcross primary school in Edinburgh are filling a time capsule with mementoes to mark a major restoration project at a pre-1919 tenement.

And the P5 pupils hope their collection of items, which will be placed behind a cornerstone of the building at Earl Grey Street, will lie undiscovered for 100 years.

The tenement is being restored by Dunedin Canmore, part of Wheatley Group, and is just up the road from the primary school.

Councillor Cammy Day, Education Convener for the City of Edinburgh Council, visited the class at Tollcross primary school to see the items they have prepared for the time capsule. He said: “It’s difficult to imagine what Tollcross will look like in 100 years’ time but I bet the pupils of the future can’t wait to get their hands on all the interesting items that our generation have put into the time capsule today. It will be a real eye opener for them as to what life was like in 21st Century Edinburgh when it’s discovered.”
