Best Start Grant

The deadline for families to apply for Best Start Grant School Age Payment is 28 February 2021.

The one-off ยฃ250 payment is currently open to families with a child born between 1 March 2015 and 29 February 2016. It can be used for anything from a warm coat to books and toys.

Parents who have deferred their childโ€™s entry to school from August 2020 to August 2021, or those home educating, should still apply before the closing date.

The payment is part of the Best Start Grant, a package of three payments for families who get tax credits or certain benefits โ€“ including Universal Credit, Income Support and Housing Benefit.

Donโ€™t forget, eligible parents can also apply for the new Scottish Child Payment at the same time they apply for Best Start Grant, making it easy for them to get the support they deserve.
